This four-star property needed to bring charm and elegance to the outdoor veranda adjoining their ballroom. The space was 16 feet deep and more than 50 feet long with an outdoor fireplace at one end, but it felt too wide-open and uninviting. The Inn envisioned a cedar pergola to provide shade and create a cozy, inviting atmosphere. After a number of attempts to sketch what they thought would work, they invited us to make a recommendation.
Before:
In designing the solution, our goal was to minimize the number of posts and allow full access from the doors along the ballroom’s outer wall. We also needed to work around the existing fireplace. We designed a pergola with just four posts along the outer side that would attach to the exposed rafter tails of the elegant building.
The result was a 16’x42′ cedar pergola that blends with the building’s architecture and provides a charming space for outdoor events such as wedding ceremonies, cocktail receptions, or summer BBQs.
